University of Victoria NEȾOLṈEW̱ Research Partnership
An International Symposium to Revive Language & Renew Culture
The Stabilizing Indigenous Languages Symposium (SILS) brought together language scholars, activists, educators, and community members to explore innovative strategies and promising practices for Indigenous language revitalization. Over three days, the symposium provided a collaborative space to share knowledge, build connections, and highlight holistic, community-led approaches that support language recovery and sustainability.
We were proud to support this important symposium from start to finish, ensuring the event ran smoothly and respectfully. Our role included:
- Project management and subcontractor coordination to align all event logistics
- Onsite event management to ensure a welcoming and accessible experience
- Registration management and communications to keep participants informed and engaged
- Graphic design and print production tailored to the symposium’s themes
- Indigenous decor and cultural protocol integration to create a culturally meaningful experience
Through keynotes, interactive workshops, panels, and land-based learning experiences, SILS showcased emerging methods and the role of technology in language stabilization. The gathering honoured Indigenous knowledge and emphasized culturally rooted approaches that reflect the diversity and strengths of Indigenous communities.
By blending careful planning with cultural care, SILS became a space where Indigenous language revitalization efforts were celebrated and strengthened. We were grateful to contribute to an event that uplifts Indigenous voices and supports the ongoing work to recover and sustain Indigenous languages.
